The Barber
Attie Louw was born in the Calvinia district. His family moved to Worcester during the Great Depression (1933). At the age of 20, Attie fought in the Second World War in the Natal Carbaniers regiment. He later joined the infantry. After the North African offensive, he fought in Italy and there he started cutting his fellow soldiers’ hair. After the war, he opened a barber shop in Worcester with Alphie Taylor. He later married Ansie Everson of Opstal Farm and was the instrument that expanded Opstal along with his father-in-law, Carl. The first wine under the Opstal label was bottled in 1978 through Attie’s initiative.

This freestanding unit is suitable for four adults or two adults and children. The main en-suite bedroom has one king-size bed, and the second room has the option of either two single beds or a king-size bed. This unit also boasts a second bathroom.

With an open plan kitchen including a gas hob, microwave oven, fridge, kettle and toaster, you will be able to prepare almost any meal. To make your stay extra comfortable we supply all the luxuries you will need, including towels, good quality linen. We also provide you with a bundle of firewood for your slow-combustion fireplace, hot tub and outside braai.  Wifi available. A camping cot can be arranged for toddlers. Sweet, clear water from the Badsberg mountain stream fill our taps and is perfectly safe to drink. Celebration We provide something extra for special occasions on pre-arrangement at additional cost. Our restaurant might not serve dinner, but we do. We offer a variety of meal baskets for pre-order. Whether you prefer steak, lamb, chicken, or even a burger, we have you covered. We also offer a range of freshly made salads, braaibroodjies, and other sides. Don't forget about dessert! Have a look at our treats to end the evening on a sweeter note.
We also offer breakfast baskets for those who prefer to make it instead of coming down to our restaurant. You can choose between a hot breakfast basket or a continental basket, to be delivered to your unit the previous afternoon. They even inlcude a juice!
Please note that we are a self catering establishment, some of the items in your meal basket will be for self preparation.
