The keyword for me in my winemaking philosophy is drinkability. My aim is to make the wine drinking experience for our customers as relaxed and enjoyable as possible.”

The Upcoming

The maiden release of Opstal’s Assistant winemaker Franco Magerman.
This is a special wine and exclusively available to Opstal Restaurant for now.
Franco joined Opstal in 2013 and 2022 marks his 10th harvest in our cellar. He has a love for Colombard and as this variety is lately making more of a name for itself as a fine wine, so Franco is excelling in his role. Expect a wine with concentration and loads of pretty fruit flavors. The palate is elegant and will provide a great pairing mate to most light dishes on our menu.

Breedekloof Makers

Welcome to Chenin Country
It has been 7 years since a group of winemakers from the Breedekloof (of which Opstal Estate is one) decided to band together and collectively showcase South Africa’s greatest white grape; Chenin blanc.

What started out as a dream in 2014, has since established firm roots with a collection of individual Chenin blancs that perfectly illustrate the quality of the Breedekloof terroir.

Although the humble nature of this group of winemakers remains unshakable, their Chenin blanc continues to draw plenty of local and international praise to boast about.
